About us

John Heinz Child Development Center

Serving our youth in Pittsburgh with kindness and compassion since 1992.

Welcome

history of the jhcdc

To help empower the next generation to realize their full potential, The Jubilee Association opened The John Heinz Family Center in 1992. Through the center, we developed our Parent as Teacher and Prenatal programs.  After School and Summer Programs were added shortly thereafter.

In February 2000, The John Heinz Child Development Center received its license from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Since that time, the JHCDC has been committed to providing high quality care and education to children from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, between the ages of 12 months and five years old, at an affordable tuition. The Center also provides other services to assist families in balancing the complex demands of parenting and employment.

The JHCDC received a 4-star rating, the highest rating possible, from PA Departement of Education's Keystone Stars program.

Conveniently located at 2001 Wyandotte St. Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 5:00 pm. For more information about the JHCDC, please call (412) 261-0373, ext. 4.

Our Mission

The John Heinz Child Development Center is committed to providing high quality child care coupled with enriching educational opportunities for each child. Our goal is to empower each child to develop socially, emotionally, culturally, and intellectually.

The John Heinz Child Development Center...

We pride ourselves in providing a variety of resources and benefits to our students to help them learn and grow. The John Heinz Child Development Center...

  • Empowers children to be ready to thrive at school intellectually, socially, emotionally

  • Is a multi-cultural setting where differences are honored and multiple languages taught

  • Provides age-appropriate stimulus for maximum brain development through educational activities, art, and music

  • Empowers parents to assist in the educational development of their children

  • Provides scholarships for those not eligible for government subsidies, thus allowing families to make economic headway, despite low-paying jobs

  • Aids parents in time of special need with Jubilee’s other services

our philosophy

Our program is based on acceptable theories of child development, and our practices, activities, and assessment of each child (looking at total child -- all aspects of growth, development, and learning).

Our Philosophy in Action

What does our philosophy look like in the classroom?

kindness + inclusion

Model respect for self and others including other children, families, and staff members.

SAFE PHYSICAL SPACE

Our setting is safe and familiar for the child, allowing them a nurturing environment to learn and grow.

Stimulating Activities

Children are able to select activities that interest them because children learn best by being actively involved.
